The board

What ATA set up. What T.A.G.'s installer does, done directly: the tree, the string definitions compiled, the comm settings (COM1, FOSSIL on, front-end mode), the three system passwords set to one private value, the message and file sections' directories pointed at D: (they named a bare C:\, so a post failed with "not enough disk space"), the protocol rows that called DSZ (which T.A.G. does not include) removed, and ATA's own transfer driver in their place.

The DOS page. "T.A.G. waiting screen" has the SysOp menus and the Ctrl-Q functions. "TAGSTR" compiles the string definitions. "MCONFIG" edits the system paths.

Making it your own. The system configuration is edited inside the board (the waiting screen's SysOp menu, S). The SysOp password prompts show as a lone :; the DOS page's note names the staged system password, which you change in the system configuration. MCONFIG edits the directory paths. The caller-facing screens are BBS\AFILES\*.MSG with *.CLR ANSI variants, and every prompt string is defined in MSTRDEF.TXT and TSTRDEF.TXT in BBS\AFILES, compiled by the TAGSTR button. The message section manager is //BOARDEDIT and the file section manager //DLBOARDEDIT, typed at the main menu.

Callers. "Enter user name or ID number:", then the password; a SysOp-level caller is asked the : system password next. A returning member is asked the last four digits of their voice phone number. New callers answer T.A.G.'s interview: every yes/no is a single key, and the phone numbers and birth date are masked fields that take digits only. New members get the access T.A.G.'s own "New user" template record gives (as shipped, level 10, which also allows one call a day).

Files. T.A.G. routes every protocol but ASCII through DSZ, which it does not include; ATA's own transfer driver, ATAXFER (Ymodem batch), takes its place in the package's protocol table, the way a 1993 SysOp would have installed DSZ.

Paging. The board rings for about twenty seconds. T.A.G. ignores F10 while a page is actually ringing, so answer a live page with Answer the page (the space bar T.A.G. asks for), not with Break in.

Things to know. This board runs its machine without the emulator's fast compiler (a plain interpreter), because T.A.G.'s delay loop trips a fault in it; it is a little slower than most. T.A.G. rotates its usage log on the first boot of a new day.

The steps every board shares (getting LORD, LORDCFG, the wrapper batch) are in the door guide. This is what is particular to this board.

Drop file: DOOR.SYS, in D:\BBS, each caller's own. LORDCFG: (9) DOORSYS, path d:\bbs\ on every line.

Batch: D:\BBS\LORD.BAT:

@ECHO OFF
D:
CD \DOORS\LORD
CALL START.BAT %NODE%
CD \BBS

The menu command. T.A.G.'s door command is program key = ("Execute DOOR.SYS and GAP door programs"): it writes DOOR.SYS in the main BBS folder and runs the program data through the command processor. Log on as the SysOp (the waiting screen's local logon, or a call), and at the main menu type //MENUEDIT. Edit menu 5, the stock "External Program Menu", and insert a command:

The ~ matters. A program data line that starts with ~ makes T.A.G. swap itself out of memory for that command (its "swap shell" setting ships off). LORD needs about 473 KB and does not fit beside T.A.G. without it.

Open the two gates. Menu 5's own header ships at SL 255, and the main menu's E command that goes there at SL 50. Lower both to your members' level (10 is T.A.G.'s new-user level) in the same editor.

How callers get there. E at the main menu for the External Program Menu, then L.
